THIS is the stunning view of Southampton, taken from the top of one of the city's most famous landmarks.

It is just one of a series of images shot from the peak of the Civic Centre clock tower as work continues on the building.

Scaffolding now covers the 150ft monument as workers repair damage caused by a major storm last year.

The project, which has cost the city council £350,000, is expected to last until February and will see the copper roof and bell frames repaired and the clock face given a spring clean.

It has also offered a rare opportunity for panoramic views across Southampton, on top of a platform built over the top of the tower.

Even on an overcast day like today it was possible to see between Redbridge in the west and Woolston in the east, and take in city landmarks such as the Itchen Bridge and the docks.

And it was also a chance to see how some of the city's biggest new developments, were emerging, such as the arts complex in Guildhall Square, and Admiral's Quay, which will be the city's tallest building.
