A WOMAN has been found unconscious in a city street having suffered two broken arms.

The 62-year old was discovered on the ground by a member of the public in Peach Road, Coxford around 4pm yesterday.

She had suffered two broken arms and a broken shoulder and she was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.

Daily Echo:

Officers are treating the incident as a suspected assault and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that could help them investigate the incident.

Shortly after 2pm today, they confirmed they had arrested a 57-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He is currently being quizzed by officers.

The woman was treated at Southampton General Hospital for injuries including broken arms, fractured shoulders, and facial injuries.

It's believed she had been making her way home from the Mountbatten pub in Lordshill before she was found.

Daily Echo:

She had been drinking beforehand and one resident in the Coxford Road saw her seconds before she was found unconscious.

Justin Nailor was crossing the road when he literally bumped into her.

He said: "She seemed ok at the time but she was fairly intoxicated. She barged into me, she didn't even see me, she was that far gone.

"There was a man behind her by quite a distance, I thought something was a bit strange.

"Nothing was physically done to her at that time."

He added that he wasn't sure how she could have been injured in the moments since he bumped into and she was found in the road.

Another neighbour, Norman Moore, found her lying on the floor moments later.

He said: "Her face was pretty badly cut. When we came down the road we found her lying in a ball by the fence.

"When she came to properly she was going on about her mobile phone."

Anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen what happened is asked to contact DS Paul Harrison at Southampton Central police station on 101 quoting 44140389189 or via the Hampshire Constabulary website.

• Hampshire police originally said the victim was found at 10pm. This was later revised to 4pm.
