STAFF at a fast food outlet called the police on one of their customers after becoming concerned he was driving while under the influence, a court heard.

Robert Malaney had pulled into a drive-through McDonalds in Harbour Parade, Southampton, in his Nissan Note at 4am.

But an employee at the counter noticed Malaney was slurring his words and that he was moving his car backwards and forwards as he waited for his food.

The police were called and Malaney, 34, of Evenlode Road, in Millbrook, admitted taking heroin and cannabis before driving, which was later verified by a test.

It then emerged that he had no licence or insurance.

He later pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs and without insurance and a licence.

The court heard he was trying to beat his addiction.

Magistrates banned him from driving for three years, and gave him a supervision order which required a six-month drug rehabilitation order.
