TRAFFIC was once again at a standstill in Southampton today after traffic light failures.
The city centre was gripped by gridlock after the lights at two key junctions stopped working, leaving motorists to slowly inch through the traffic.
Drivers were left fuming as lengthy queues built across the city when lights failed at the junction of Havelock Road and Commercial Road and at the Teboura Way, Winchester Road and Romsey Road junction shortly after noon.
The delays and volume of traffic led to further gridlock in West Quay Road, Harbour Parade, Brunswick Place and Civic Centre Road.
Southampton City Council highways department this afternoon announced they have now fixed the lights but warn heavy traffic has yet to clear.
In a statement released on Twitter the department wrote that lights are now working again but added: “West Quay Road, Brunswick Place, Harbour Parade, Civic Centre Rd all continue to be very busy.”
