POLICE have confirmed they are investigating the shocking road-rage brawl that broke out in broad daylight on a Southampton street.

Video shows a motorist standing over a man in high-visibility overalls and grabbing at his throat while he lies in the road.

The fight is only broken up when a bystander is seen running across the road and dropping his shopping before separating the pair.

He makes calming gestures and talks to them both and finally they both get back in their vehicle and drive away.

The peacemaker then picks up his belongings and crosses the road.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: “Police were called around 1.25pm, February 25, by a 20-year-old man in his car on High Road in Southampton.

“He reported that another driver had smashed his windscreen and assaulted him.

“This followed a previous dispute between the two parties on Thomas Lewis Way.

“Officers are investigating the incident and are speaking to both drivers involved to come to an appropriate resolution.”

The footage was recorded by Gareth Moore, who was driving past at the time of the fight.

A time stamp on the dashboard camera footage suggests the incident - on Stoneham Way, Swaythling, took place at about 1.30pm on Wednesday, February 25.
