A WOMAN died in her Southampton home after falling and injuring herself, an inquest heard.

Mavis Jewell, 64, was found unconscious at her home in Brookwood Road, Millbrook, by a neighbour on the morning of February 13 this year.

She had a history of medical problems, including asthma, osteoporosis and depression and relied on neighbour Mark Chambers to help her with shopping and other errands.

Mr Chambers told the inquest into her death that she rang him to ask for help after she had fallen in her home on February 12.

He discovered that she had badly cut her arm and he bandaged her before agreeing to pick up her shopping list in the morning.

He said: “I could see that there was a light on and I assumed that because of the pain she had got up early – most people who have injured themselves don’t sleep too well.

“The door was on the latch and the shopping list was on the side and I could see the TV was flickering. I opened the door and she was dead on the settee.”

Coroner Grahame Short said: “I’m going to record this as an accidental death and note that she died as a result of a brain haemorrhage as a result of the fall.”
