DONATIONS have been pouring in to help the devastated family of a popular Hampshire biker who died in a road crash pay for his funeral.

Nick Brisland tragically died when his motorcycle was in collision with a car and a taxi in Southampton, leaving his family and friends heartbroken.

The 19-year-old, who was a keen scout, was pronounced dead at the scene of the smash in Spring Road on Friday evening, despite the desperate attempts of neighbours and paramedics who tried to save him.

Nick was also best man to her husband Ashley Swanborough.

She said: “We are just amazed by the response. It just shows how missed he is going to be and what a big family scouting is.”

A floral tribute at the scene in Spring Road is continuing to grow and bikers from across Hampshire have visited to pay their respects.

While bikers who were friends with Nick have rallied together to remember him by organising a ride out on Saturday, which will go from McDonalds in Hedge End - where he worked as a trainee manager, to Portsdown Hill.

Tributes left to Nick from the scouting community

Many have described Nick as a 'gentle giant' while his mother Maria Brisland said he was the 'perfect son'.

She hopes Nick's death will raise awareness of road safety for bikers.

Maria said: “Nothing will ever take the pain away but if this tragedy can do one thing please let it remind anyone who rides a motor bike they are not toys and the road is a dangerous place. One needs to respect the power of the engine beneath the peddle or throttle.

“Drive with more awareness like an accident is about to happen at any moment. Wear protective clothing. Respect yourself and other drivers as so many lives were ruined because of this tragedy.”

“Nothing will ever bring our boy back but if his accident can prevent another then not all is lost in vain.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any information, is asked to call police on 101, quoting Operation Gaspee.
