MOTORISTS face chaos tonight when a Southampton road is closed at a major junction due to emergency gas works.
St Denys Road will be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am on the eastbound section between Belmont Road and Thomas Lewis Way to allow engineers to work on a gas main.
Anyone travelling out of Portswood via that stretch is advised to find an alternative route.
Hannah Adam, spokesperson for gas distribution network company SGN said: "Due to the location of the gas main, it is necessary to temporarily close the southeast bound lane of St Denys Road overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for traffic travelling from Portswood Road towards Thomas Lewis Way.
"A signed diversion route will be in place.
"We're sorry for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank everyone for their patience while we carry out this essential repair work."
