A WOMAN was treated for a dog bite after a kitchen blaze at a home in Southampton.

Fire crews rushed to the ground floor flat in Itchenside Close at 6.16pm after reports of the fire.

It is understood the woman was one of several people trying to alert the occupier of the flat about the fire when the front door was opened and she was bitten by the resident's dog.

Fire crews from Hightown and Eastleigh stations were called to the home at 6.16pm after reports of a blaze in the kitchen of the ground-floor flat.

When they arrived on the scene the fire, which had started in a pan on the hob, was already out.

No-one else was treated following the incident.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said a woman was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment for bite injuries.
