THE countdown clock is ticking as we hurtle towards the first ever Common People festival tomorrow and Sunday.

Southampton Common will host headline sets from Fatboy Slim and Grace Jones, plus Clean Bandit, Years & Years, De La Soul, Derrick Carter, Husky and many more.

But alongside the music the team behind Bestival and Camp Bestival will bring "a little taste" of their "legendary madness and mayhem" to Southampton.

Showcasing the fun and theatre of Bestival, they say be prepared to get involved in some off the wall antics.

Organiser Rob da Bank says: “Antics should be my middle name! I love festivals mainly for music, but after that it’s all about high jinks, fun and games and... well, antics!

"When we launched we didn’t wanna be the same as everyone else and we have carved out a niche not just for being the ultimate playground for kids of all ages but also a leftfield, experimental and experiential space where yarnbombing and a knitting tent nestle up to Morris Dancers, vintage fairground rides and beautiful artwork made specifically onsite for the festival. ”

Rob, pictured above, added: "I can't wait to open the gates on Saturday and see all the people roll in. To do this in Southampton where I did my first gig, where I saw my first band is really exciting.

"It's down to a huge team of people who help me. But it's also down to the people that come and make the party happen."

Festival goers can expect a spectacular Fireworks Finale straight after the main stage headliner each night.

Among the attractions adding to the atmosphere will be Southsea Alternative Choir; Hampshire theatre company Albatross Productions performing family-friendly street pieces and busking from Southampton’s Sea Slugs.

The family fun includes the Bigtopmania Circus; Trapeze Lessons, a Fire Show, Circus Skills, Face Painting, and performances by Nuffield Youth Theatre involving rampaging polar bears!

Also adding a sprinkling of Bestival fun will be Morris Dancing, a Big Wheel and Helter Skelter.
