SOUTHAMPTON'S pubs have been given a Tube map overhaul, with a view to making it as easy as possible to find somewhere to enjoy a drink.

Over 150 pubs from across the city feature on the map, which was designed by maths teacher John Coats, in association with Ringwood Brewery.

The Pub Stops of Southampton shows the city's hosteleries as a stop of interchange and the routes follow road layout in the city - making it an ideal way to plan a night out.

The tube lines follow roads, so each ‘line’ really could be motivation for a pub crawl.

John has produced a number of Pubstops designs for other cities and regions of the UK, including the New Forest and Portsmouth.

The first design was for John’s home city of Sheffield around 10 years ago. He said: "I have to admit to being a bit taken aback at its success. These are obviously a great gift item, but I think there is something about the local pub and the way that pubs are such important landmarks in our cities that appeals to people. "

"We genuinely hope that our posters might encourage people to try out a new pub-not to mention being inspiration for a night out!"

John runs pubstops.co.uk as a hobby when he isn’t teaching maths in a Sheffield high school.
