TWO men who burgled a Hampshire home at night have been jailed.

Keir Buxey and Dayle Rannochan committed the burglary at the home in Mortimers Lane in Southampton.

Southampton Crown Court heard how Rannochan, of Hightown Towers, Southampton, had contested the burglary charge and took it to trial.

But Buxey, of Lydgate Road, Thornhill, Southampton, had pleaded guilty to burglary at the earliest possible stage.

The burglary, which happened over an alleged debt, took place on January 29 this year.

Louise Howard, mitigating for Buxey, a father-of-five, said he had been on remand in custody for the last seven months.

She said he knew the home occupier Steve Weaver who had owed him some money.

The court was told thast it was due to that debt that Buxey had been prompted to visit to his home.

Ms Howard added that it was because Buxey did not get what he wanted that he then broke into the house to get goods to cover the debt.

She said that the raid had been more impulsive than pre-planned.

Mark Florida-James, mitigating for Rannochan, said the crime had not been sophisticated.

He added that his 21-year-old client hoped to change his ways and provide a more stable environment for his family.

Buxey was sentenced to 12 months for the burglary.

The 27-year-old was sentenced to a further one month in prison for each of further offences of possession of cannabis and failing to attend court, on October 13 last year.

They will run concurrent to each other but run consecutively after his other sentence, making a total of 13 months.

Rannochan was jailed for 15 months.
