A MAN was left with serious facial wounds after an assault by a gang of robbers in a late-night attack in Southampton.

The 32-year-old was walking in Bourne Road, Shirley, between 12.05am and 12.15am on Tuesday when he was set upon by a group of four people and was punched in the head a number of times.

After he fell to the ground the gang took several items from him including a Nokia Lumia mobile phone, a silver metal ring with three skulls on it, £45 in cash and his passport.

The victim sustained a possible fractured eye-socket as well as cuts and bruises to his face and eyes.

Detective Constable Claire Ratcliffe said: “I am appealing for anyone with any information about this robbery to come forward and speak to us. I would also like to speak to anyone who may have come across the stolen items discarded in the area.”
