HAVE you ever felt you were secretly royalty?

If so, get your tiara out as Mayflower Theatre in Southampton needs your help to break the Guinness World Record for most princesses in one place.

The Southampton theatre is hoping to smash the current record of 351 princesses in the same location, which is held by Festival Leisure Park in Essex.

The Mayflower is calling for men, women and children to take part in the record attempt in December which coincides with the theatre’s Christmas pantomime, Aladdin.

Mayflower CEO Michael Ockwell said: “Having fun and breaking records is actually a very serious business!

“Because this is an official Guinness World Record attempt there are strict rules which must be adhered to make this day a success.

“For instance all those taking part must wear a long traditional princess dress and a crown or tiara – and these must not be made of paper.”

As well as needing the proper royal attire, would-be princesses must also stay in costume for the duration of the entire event.

Only people who are dressed as princesses will be able to enter the building during the record attempt and children are welcome to come but anyone under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult princess.

Children under two years old are not allowed to take part.

Those wishing to join the world’s biggest gathering of princesses will have to buy a £5 ticket for each person taking part.

All money raised will be split equally between Mayflower Engage and Countess Mountbatten Hospice Charity.

Mr Ockwell added: “Mayflower Theatre has tasted fantastic success over the last few years, success which is owed in a large part to the people of our local community.

“We try to give back to that community through Mayflower Engage; providing opportunities and support for local people, young and old in the arts.

“This world record attempt will be great fun for those taking part and will raise funds for Mayflower Engage ensuring we are able to continue our education programmes.

“Additionally tThe money will enable us to put on more relaxed performances which creates a theatre experience which can be enjoyed by even more people.”

The attempt is taking place from 10.30am on Saturday, December 19. Tickets can be purchased on 02380 711811 or at mayflower.org.uk.
