A YOUNG woman was punched in the face as she walked along a Southampton street.
Officers from Hampshire police are appealing for witnesses after the 19-year old suffered facial injuries when she was assaulted on Highfield Lane.
A man approached her then grabbed and punched her as she walked along a stretch of the road between The Avenue and Furzedown Road.
The man is described as white, in his mid twenties, around six foot tall with broad shoulders, a pale complexion and was clean shaven.
He wore a distictive black ‘deer hunter’ style hat with a fur trim, a green Parka-style jacket with an off-white fur hood and dark blue straight cut jeans.
The attack happened between 8pm and 8.30pm, on Friday, November 27.
Detective Constable Timothy Doyle from the Western Investigations Team said: “This appears to be a completely unprovoked attack on a young woman and therefore quite rare.
“But if you can avoid walking alone in the hours or darkness, do so. As always, consider which route to take and think about taking a friend.”
Anyone with any information or who saw anything in the area around that time should dial 101 quoting 44150413071.
