A TROUBLED pub last night remained closed after council bosses met yesterday to decide its fate.

Another brawl at the Shield and Dagger in Shirley led to a second licence review in a fortnight which was held behind closed doors.

Regulars turning up to enjoy a drink at pub yesterday evening were instead met with locked doors.

Last night committee chairman Matt Tucker said he was unable to disclose the findings of the panel due to the ongoing police investigation into the latest incident at the Shirley pub.

He said: “The decision is confidential at this stage ... because incidents relating to the hearing concern people who are subject to a police investigation.”

As reported by the Daily Echo, police arrested a 20-year-old man on Friday after a doorman was injured trying to split up a fight.

It is the latest in a string of police incidents which prompted officers to call for the pub to be shut down.

Last month the committee voted against removing the licence but imposed several new conditions.

Landlord Tony Cookson did not respond to a request for comment.
