ZEBRAS will be taking to the stage this summer after the Nuffield Theatre signed up to the Zany Zebra spectacular this summer.

Nuffield have become the latest supporters of public art extravaganza, Marwell’s Zany Zebras, that will take to the streets of Southampton this summer.

The award-winning professional producing theatre company with a reputation for innovation and quality, creating bold and distinctive theatre has signed up to sponsor a zebra.

Laura Eastwood, director of development and communications at Nuffield, said: “This is a very exciting year for Nuffield as we expand and work towards opening our new city centre venue. We are delighted to be part of Marwell’s Zany Zebras and to reach new audiences in Southampton and beyond.”’ The trail will begin on July 16 and run for ten weeks, giving visitors and residents the chance to enjoy a family-friendly trail as the spot the zebras dotted around the city centre.

Kirstie Mathieson, project manager for Marwell’s Zany Zebras said: “I am thrilled that Nuffield have joined the stampede. Marwell’s Zany Zebras will attract hundreds of thousands of people into Southampton and will help to raise the profile of not only the new art complex but also the existing Nuffield theatre. Southampton has a fantastic cultural offer and we hope that the project helps to put the region firmly on the map and perhaps change the perception of the city.”

Along with the large sculpture trail around Southampton there will also be a miniature trail around Marwell Zoo itself for visitors to the attraction to enjoy.

The zoo was also the scene of a stripy dash last weekend as more than 100 people took part in a Zebra Zoooom! event to raise awareness of the Zany Zebra trail.

Visitors were also given an insight into the conservation work undertaken by the zoo.

After the trail, all of the large sculptures will be sold at auction to raise funds for Marwell Wildlife’s work to conserve endangered Grevy’s zebras and other wildlife, and to support communities living in the arid rangelands of northern Kenya.
