A SOUTHAMPTON anti-racism group took their campaign to the steps of the city council.
‘Stand Up to Racism’ encouraged council officials to sign their five-point pledge to end discrimination.
The group praised Southampton for being a diverse city and said they wanted make sure the city continues to be a safe place for all cultures.
Cabinet member Satvir Kaur, who joined the effort, said: “I am part of a fifth generation of immigrants and I think Southampton should welcome first generations and allow people to freely build a life here in the city. Diversity for me is what makes Southampton so great, the city is only as good as its people and the group wants to ensure that every minority group is treated properly.”
Last year 25 Syrian families resettled in the city.
Group member Mohammed Ansar said: “We want Southampton to be safe and secure for everybody and welcome all people to the city and for the council to fully support us with that ideology.”
