A spectacular light show lit up one of Southampton's most iconic buildings.

The city's O2 Guildhall was bathed in striking colours during a vibrant performance of art, creativity, music and dance.

Crowds gathered for the Lighten Up show at Southampton Guildhall Square last night.

The historic building was transformed into a giant canvass for a series of mesmerising 'light graffiti' shows projecting pictures, graphic designs and animations onto its pillars and walls.

The free event, which attracted more than 200 people, was organised by Showcase Gallery, and follows their previous show in 2012.

Three Southampton-based artists used iPads to draw and present their work live in front of the audience while it was projected onto the Guildhall and a neighbouring Solent University building including striking images of flowers, nature and faces.

There were also dance performances from the Mayflower Theatre, Rambert Dance and Zoo Nation.
