SOUTHAMPTON fans are among the most romantic in the country, a new survey has revealed.

The study, conducted by The Football Pools, found that 45 per cent of Saints fans would choose to spend a romantic evening with their partner tonight, rather than watch the footie.

They were pipped to the accolade of most romantic by just one other club – Stoke City. Their fans were revealed to be the most romantic in the Premier League, with 55 per cent choosing to spend the evening with their partner.

The study also found that fans of South Coast rival AFC Bournemouth were the least passionate, with not a single fan choosing a romantic evening over football. The Cherries also have the highest percentage of fans more willing to leave their partner than swap allegiances at 57 per cent, slightly above Saints fans’ 55 per cent.

The results are revealed as Valentine’s Day coincides with several UEFA Champions League matches and a full fixture list in the Football League.

The survey of more than 2,000 football fan found that 45 per cent of them plan to watch the football on TV, while 10 per cent will be heading to the match instead of spending time with a loved one.

And it even seems Saints fans are taking their passion from the game into the bedroom with one in ten admitting they have even thought about football during sex.

But don’t expect them to get sentimental at a wedding – 30 per cent of Southampton  supporters said they have daydreamed about football while attending the special day.

The study comes just under two weeks before Saints head to Wembley for their EFL Cup final clash with Manchester United on February 26.
