THREE men have been arrested following a late night car chase.

An Audi sped down Hill Lane at around 9.15pm on Thursday night after it had failed to stop when asked to by police officers.

When it eventually crashed into another car as it turned in Milton Road, just yards away from Springhill Catholic Primary School, officers found the group had an amount of cannabis and a baseball bat on them.

Onlookers described the chaos as the car destroyed a Fiesta parked up in the road.

Simon Nomis, who lives opposite the school, said: "I heard the sound of loads of sirens so I looked out of my window and saw the destroyed car.

“You can see that the car which was trying to get away has swerved into the other car.

“The front end of the car was up and there was no way they were going to move that car.

“One of the guys from the car must have tried to make a run for it because I could see him in our car park with officers arresting him.”

He added: “I’ve lived on Hill Lane for a while so we often get these types of chases. Criminals seem to think that Hill Lane is a clearer road to use than Shirley High Street.”

Another, who wished to remain anonymous, said it was “crazy” and not something you expect to see.

A police spokesperson said that the three occupants had left the scene after the Audi stopped but three men were arrested a short time afterwards.
