POLICE are investigating a robbery at a Southampton shop where two men assaulted staff and stole around £600 in cash.

The incident at Central convenience store on St James Road took place yesterday afternoon.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "It was reported that two men entered the store between 2pm and 2.30pm and assaulted staff members before making demands.

"Enquiries are on-going.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting 44170468662."

The spokesman confirmed that the police would be looking into the possibility that the incident is linked to the recent spree of robberies in the Southampton and Eastleigh areas as part of their investigation.
