POLICE cordoned off a Southampton home and a nearby shop after a delivery driver was stabbed in the street.

Officers swarmed to Foundry Lane, Shirley, this morning after a 38-year-old was attacked.

Witnesses say "10 police cars", including a dog unit, surrounded the area and taped off a house.

The entrance to nearby Mojo Hair and Beauty was also cordoned off.

Police have now confirmed that a 38-year-old sustained stab wounds in the incident.

Officers say a 19-year-old  man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

A spokesperson said: "We were called at 11.15am this morning to reports of an assault on Foundry Lane, Shirley.

"A 38-year-old man from Southampton sustained stab wounds, but these are not deemed to be life-threatening.

"A 19-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, and remains in custody at this time.

"Enquiries are on-going."

South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), say they were called to the scene after a man was injured in what they described as a  "serious assault".

The man, delivering for DPD at the time of the attack, was rushed to University Hospital Southampton.

However, a spokesperson for SCAS said that his injuries are not life-threatening.

One witness, Paul Oldfield, drove past the scene earlier today and said he saw "10 police cars".

The 44-year-old said: "I was driving into town and there were loads of police cars parked in Shirley.

"It looked like some manhunt on.

"There was an ambulance and about 10 police cars, it must be something serious."

Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed they sent one crew from Redbridge to assist with the police-led incident, after they were called at 11.53 am.

A spokesperson for DPD said: "We can confirm that a DPD driver was involved in a serious incident in Shirley this morning and that we are currently helping the police with their investigation. 

"At this moment, all our thoughts are with our driver.

"Our team will continue to provide every assistance with the investigation and if we are able to comment further in the future we will.”
