Harbour Lights Picturehouse will be hosting a special screening of the new, dark comedy, Brakes on Thursday followed by a Q&A with director, Mercedes Grower.
Following the chaotic lives of nine London couples, Brakes tells the tale of how they each first fell in love to how their relationships failed in the most absurd and brutal ways. Exploring the humour and heartbreak that we experience in break-ups, Brakes is a refreshing and honest outlook on relationships.
Anti rom-com Brakes stars familiar faces such as Noel Fielding and Julian Barrett from The Mighty Boosh and Julia Davis from Gavin and Stacey.
Having written comedy sketches since she was 14 years old, Brakes is Mercedes Grower’s directing debut in which she uses improvisation and a low budget to her advantage.
She says: “Break-ups are weird and funny, deranged and hysterical, and we all go through them - men and women, young and old. They're sort of universal, yet so individual.”
