SCORES of motorcyclists paid tribute to a “well-loved” and ‘caring’ Southampton motorbike mechanic today.

More than 200 people attended a procession of motorcyclists in memory of Peter Doswell, who died last month aged 75 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a progressive lung condition.

Mr Doswell worked as a motorbike mechanic and nightwatchman at C+S Motors for more than 28 years and was well known by hundreds of motorcyclists in the city.

The convoy travelled from the former scrapyard in Northam to Southampton Crematorium on Stoneham Lane was led by Mr Doswell’s favourite vehicle, a BSA Bantam.

A funeral attended by close family and friends then took place at the Crematorium.

Peter Doswell Junior, the son of Peter, said: “My father was indeed the 24-hour “face of the business” that everybody knew and related to.

“It was amazing the support that everyone gave, my dad would have been pleased.”

Bill Smith, the owner of C&S Motors, where Mr Doswell worked, added: “He had a very kind heart, a lot of people thought the world of him.”

Along with his Jack Russell Benny, Mr Doswell lived in a caravan on the site during his time working there.

A fundraising campaign has also been set up which will raise funds for the D6 respiratory ward at Southampton general hospital where he was cared for in his later years and people can donate at justgiving.com/fundraising/petedoswell.
