A WOMAN raises £1000 after shaving her head for a Hampshire charity.

Tahlia Kaye, 29 decided to cut her 18 inch brown hair to raise money for a Hampshire based sexual abuse charity called Yellow Door.

The charity supports individuals who have experienced or who are at risk of sexual abuse.

The event was held at The Heartbreakers venue in the city centre, where Tahlia's friends, family and generous donors gathered together to watch her loose her long locks and get her new shaven hairstyle.

Tahlia raised more than £1000 and she will also be donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust, who provide wigs for young people who have lost their hair due to cancer.

When asked why she decided to raise money for Yellow Door Tahlia said: "I was a victim of rape and domestic abuse and Yellow Door have helped me a lot.

"The people that run the charity are so lovely and caring.

"They provide a safe space for individuals who have suffered with sexual assault to work through their feelings.

"I was in such a bad place a few years ago, I had post traumatic stress disorder and I don't think I would be here today without the help of Yellow Door."

Tahlia held a raffle at the event and she also let people cut off chunks off her hair at the donation cost of £5.

She said:"It was a great event and I can't believe I have raised this much money.

"I'd like to thank Bennet and Merritt barbers in Southampton for providing their services for free.

"I'd love to raise more money for Yellow Door in the future but I have no plans at the moment.

"The thing is, I wanted to raise money in a way that would grab peoples attention.

"I don't do things half heartedly.

"Go hard or go home, that's what I say."
