11:25am Wednesday 22nd February 2012 in Southampton
A street in Southampton will be giving doorstep sellers the cold shoulder from today.
Bassett Green Drive has been designated the city’s first No Cold Calling Zone in a bid to protect elderly and vulnerable residents.
This comes after they were being targeted by rogue traders duping them into buying things they did not need.
Residents in the road will be putting stickers in their windows and doors informing cold callers that it is a No Cold Calling Zone as part of the scheme, which is supported by Hampshire County Council and Hampshire Constabulary.
City leader Royston Smith said: “This is an important initiative that gives residents the power to say no.
“Once cold callers see that they will be turned away from every household in a No Cold Calling Zone they will soon avoid those areas in the future.”

Why are they starting with the posh roads in Southampton? What about the rest of us? Is it because they are a bit dim up there hence why they are 'duped' into buying things they dont want?!

Also it's this area that has been targeted not other areas. What would be the point in placing the initiative in an area not known for conmen and leave the vulnerable to suffer. Also Just because people have more money there doesn't mean they should have the same level of support as everyone else.
