Waterlitz postponed for 24 hours

The figure in action The figure in action

A SPECTACULAR music, acrobatics and fireworks event in Southampton has been postponed for 24 hours.

Organisers have decided not to go ahead tonight with Waterlitz, a spectacular music, dance, acrobatics and pyrotechnics street theatre show featuring a 60ft giant constructed out of shipping containers, which was due to take place in Mayflower Park.

They have decided to go ahead with the show on tomorrow evening instead.

The performance will start at 10pm, with shows starting from 8pm.

It comes after the Red Arrows flypast over Cunard's Three Queens had to be cancelled due to torrential rain on the Jubilee Weekend.

The frontal photo reminds me of that 1970s film, 'The Wicker Man.' Will we be sacrificing any of Hampshire's finest at this festival, by any chance?

Could probably do with being advertised a bit better - I didn't know it was happening so the cancellation won't be a problem!

When do you think they'll tell us it's been cancelled again?

why so late (because it's dark one assumes)? on a Sunday evening too? i.e. school night but this immediately rules out the attendance of quite a large number of people.

I'm not sure why on earth this has been scheduled? so soon after the jubilee weekend? what's it in aid of does anyone know and who is paying for it??

I'm not usually so negative about events but really what is the point ??

It's a free event, was supposed to be tonight but the weather forecast has pushed it back. It's late because as you say, it needs to be dark( the clues in the name) and if you don't like the look of it, don't go!

i can just see half of Southampton and Area trudging
down there for 10pm with kids to go to school and peoples to start early shifts why not postpone it till the holidays when a lot of kids and families have no where to go. Bring back the Balloon Festival or some other entertainment for the families On The Common.

This week-end would have been great for the Balloon Festival, however the only things likely to have been flying were the Marquees!

I'd like to know who was poor person had to go around putting a sticker saying "17" over the "16 June" on the poster - we drove down especially to see the show & I was slightly pleased that I was able to get close to town quay then even more surprised when I could drive right into Mayflower Park...it was very dark...& a few people lurched about looking hopeful. I parked the car in front of the Wicker Man, & we waited. ... then as we left I saw the date was changed.
Its not lovely weather out there, but its not raining & I can remember many many firework displays in the pouring rain being still popular - recent 3 Queens was dismal but full of spectators.....

I think it is more the wind than the rain. I went out last night down the coast and was nearly blown over, I dont blame them for putting back.
