I can't help wonder if this decision was reached by his colleagues for the good of the Council and therefore the people it is tasked to serve or out of fear of being pushed out.

As it was purely an internal matter for the Labour administration, why the hell should they give any explanations to Royston Smith?

If Royston Smith were a competent person who was more interested in what was good for the city, instead of trying to score cheap political points, he would not have called for a vote of no confidence, that he knew he would lose, and instead have used the time for the betterment of the City.

Yesterday in the council chamber the Tories looked a bit lost. They went through the motions with their usual over the top vitriol, exaggeration, name calling, insults and hysteria and it failed.
Many of their backbenchers looked bored and did not join in with the Tory front bench clapping. Does Royston Smith have the confidence of his own group. Maybe he should have a confidence motion in his group

It was display of tribalism of political parties exhibited in it's worse form, and most NuLbour Councillors were by far the biggest culprits.

Motion put forward by Tories was very much flawed. Most important issue of freedom of expression and rights of free press, over which NuLabour's paid pen pushers trampled was not even mentioned. 

Obviously others will have their own opinions, which may be different from mine, but in my view Tories won the debate BUT lost the vote.

Even my real socialist commitments could not stop me from shaking the hand of Cllr. John Hannides and congratulating an old colleague and political opponent for his admirable speech.

By far the worse contribution and speech was of Leader of Council Cllr. Richard Williams, who read page after page of his statement with supersonic speed that I found it difficult to understand his waffle.  Probably that was exactly a the point of his disgraceful exercise.

Cllr. Keith Morrell's total of two sentence explanation of his reason to resign explained absolutely nothing as it appeared to be another oath of loyalty to same system from which he has resigned and same party to which he has deliberately caused enormous embarrassment. 

Most of those NuLabourites who spoke went through already typed scripts in front, I won't be surprised if those also came from some pen pushers in their party, all of them rather than addressing the order paper in front talked about Williams importance as their best asset in last election. Although in my opinion it was Osborne's budget and unpopularity of last Tory administration that won them the seats.

To put it mildly they reminded me of North Korean communists who self efface themselves while kissing the back side of their ruthless dictator, whom they call 'Dear Leader'

So I wonder if 'Dear Leader' of our NuLboourite's may be in need of some cream for soar back after so much of patting kissing and licking!!!

If I was to award the biggest biscuit, it would have gone to William's latest appointed poodle Noon. He proved worth every penny of many thousands of pounds he will get out of job given to him by 'Dear Leader' by describing him as the best ever Leader of Labour Group. Thus insulting people like Dr.Alan Whitehead by implication. 

Simon Letts used the opportunity to shamelessly ditch any pretence of what he tried to portray himself when he spoke to a meeting of TUSC. Proves these NuLabourites can't be trusted.

So can only say that yesterday was not only sad but a day of shame for NuLabour. He asked if the Council would allow tenants to have free Solar Panels fitted under the Government scheme.
he was told if we need to do something to the roof we'd have to pay to take them off so NO we won't let tenants have the same free electricity as private households.
He felt let down & won't bother airing his thoughts with any Labour Councillors as he thinks they're all liars.
Why don't you explain to your tenants why you won't let them have the Panels as I know a lot want them in Lordshill & Millbrook?

I can't say much about Barns-Andrew because I missed his statement at that time. I am not avoiding answering or not questioning your credibility. But yesterday he did not say a single word and voted, yes voted FOR full faith in Williams.

I have very little time for people who fail to put their Money where their mouths are.

Cllr. Rayment as already said has yet again proved her to be unsuitable for not only Police Commissioner but also to be Deputy Leader of Council.

Labour should ditch her and get somebody like Denham to be their candidate. I may disagree with John Denham but will always respect him for being very able man with lots of experience and willing to work hard.

I think you are reading too much into his membership of Unite, as far as I know he is just an ordinary member and not very active in the union. He is very much on the right, used to support right winger colonial style man John Arnold. I can't remember JN ever supporting strikers on picket lines, where I and few others have spent plenty of our time, which often upset people of political loyalties like your good self. So Unite could hardly have anything to do with this appointment. 

To the best of my knowledge only councillor who's heart is genuinely with workers and their unions is Don Thomas. Other one used to be Danis HARRYMAN, who just like Don was hard worker with real Labour values. As far as I am concerned most others are either freeloaders or should be in your Conservative Party!!! Older people in Labour have set a terrible example to their younger colleagues about standards in public office. Shame, shame on you, some of whom I had previously respected.

Lone Ranger, in my view Paramjit is an honourable man who believes Councillors should tell the truth.
Labour did not have the guts to tell the truth, they tried to avoid the question whether Morrell or Williams lied.
The trouble with lying is it becomes a habit. I understand Labour said before the election,they would protect jobs,salaries etc. Was this another lie? We will see over the coming months.

Because I observed from public gallery as member of the public not blind folded by NuLabour Whip or loyalty to own soul not NuLabour's tribe.

If cheering the Front Benchers and clapping like monkeys is Dave's measure, then what about those on NuLabour side who behaved like humans and did not clap either but reluctantly sacrificed their conscience and voted under order of The Whip.

Please face the facts, your 'Dear Leader' is turning your party into Titanic, and your candidate for Police Commissioner who herself admitted to having casually cleared the false statement, has destroyed her credibility for a very demanding post.

Please take my sincere advice for the good of your party for which I campaigned hard for over 35 years:

Keith Morrell, whose inconsistent record you must know, is responsible for creating this mess. So don't be weak kneed, fire the self confessed liar.

Your Dear Leader may be very successful at many other things but he has proved to be unsuitable for this job. So please elect somebody bit better. In the absence of Alan Whitehead or somebody with his kind of ability; Even Simon Letts could considered.

Ditch your candidate for Commisioner Cllr Rayment, get John Denham to leave parliament early, with his ability and experience he could be your party's saviour.

Finally Most important: Start being honest with people of our city by telling them the truth, exactly which services NuLabour is going to cut and how many jobs it intends to destroy.

Not waffle go and check the history of elections here in the south coast, the south coast do tend to be a true blue area and all as been, and its only small location like Southampton that do bring in some thing different, and that is why Southampton is used to judge the feeling of the country.
From Kant to Cornwall there are more Tory Councillors and Councils and MP's. and its is normally like this.

sottondave is a Labour Councillor for Millbrook Ward, if I remember Rightly.
He not very good on his Politics, wells how he came across to me when I last spoke to him and his daughter in Shirley, He could not pick any faults, with the TUSC manifest all he could do was pick on spelling and grammar that was more likely off been a typo than a spelling error, He may not been able to pick fault with the manifest because he might off agreed with it. And if thats the case he in the wrong political party, but then again he did confess to being a Capitalist just like Whitbread did.
