Primary school pupils put one foot in front of the other today as part of a national day of action to highlight the benefits of walking to school.
Pupils, staff, and parents from all years at Whitchurch First School, in Wemborough Road, Stanmore, took on the circuit round the school as part of national Walk to School Week.
Headteacher Ann Winstrom said: “It was a really great day not just for the pupils but for the whole school community.
“We really try and encourage parents to walk to school with their children because it is a real benefit to them.
“Those who do walk, arrive for class so much calmer and more switched-on for the day. It makes a huge difference.”
The week brings together more than one million schoolchildren, teachers and parents to highlight the benefits of walking to school.
These include the school walk being part of a healthy lifestyle and an environmentally friendly form of travel.
