A WOMAN in her 20s has died after a crash on a major Hampshire road.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after her Vauxhall Corsa collided with a lorry on the A272 bend near Cheesefoot Head, near Winchester. She was 24 years old and from Waterlooville.

The lorry driver, a man aged 40, was treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene.

A police spokesman at the scene said no arrests are likely to be made.

"The female driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene," he said.

"Notifications are still being made to next of kin at this time. The debris field is quite big. It's everything you would expect from car and lorry debris."

The road reopened at 1.15pm.

Sergeant Nigel Burt, said: “I’d like to speak to anyone who might have seen the blue Vauxhall Corsa or the lorry being driven along the A272 this morning.  I would urge anyone with any information about this collision to come forward.”
