A DEAL has been struck to build 80 cut-rate homes in a new Hampshire housing estate.
The affordable houses in Winchester, previously agreed as part of the controversial Pitt Manor development of 200 homes, will be built by Sentinel Housing Association.
Work on the £15 million development off Romsey Road – branded ‘Winchester Village’ – is already under way.
The scheme, which will also include a new park and ride bus depot, was granted on government appeal in 2012 after fierce opposition from the Keep Pitt Green campaign, local councillors and city MP Steve Brine.
All 80 homes will meet the same energy efficiency and waste standards as developments including Barton Farm and Silver Hill.
Sentinel director Mike Shepherd said: “There’s a real need for affordable housing in the Winchester area and we’re doing all we can to provide local families with new homes to suit their pocket.”
