A HUB for all things arts has announced its spring programme, including exhibitions, shows and fun for families.

The Winchester Discovery Centre in Jewry Street kicks off the new season of exhibitions by presenting two prestigious collections.

The first, Henry Moore – Prints from the British Council Collection, runs from January 10 until March 1 in The Gallery.

It is followed by Hiroshige’s Japan – 53 Stations of the Tokaido Road, a collection of prints from the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. It runs from March 7 until May 24.

City Space continues to showcase local artefacts and artwork, beginning with the popular annual Mayor’s Choice Exhibition from January 31 until March 1.

Winchester Chamber Orchestra performs the ever-popular children’s classic Peter and the Wolf on February 7.

From March 7 until April 19 Trash to Treasure: A Great Waste Production will show sustainable, useful and often beautiful objects that have been created from waste.

The Winchester Photographic Society will host its annual exhibition between April 25 and May 17.

Family Sundays continue with entertainment for children and their families.

February 1 sees Rosie’s Magic Horse, a theatre production based on the book by Russell Hoban and Quentin Blake, open the season.

The Mayhem Magic Show, presented by Magic Dan, follows on February 15, whilst Tiernan Douieb brings Everything We’ve Ever Needed to Know Ever (And Some Extra Stuff) on March 1.

Three theatre productions finish the spring with Puss ‘n’ Boots on March 15, Ugly Duckling on April 12, and Merlin and the Sword in the Stone on April 26.

The Easter holidays sees an interactive storytelling session with Binky Bear and the authors on April 7, followed by workshops presented by The Great Waste for children to create objects from recycled materials.

Next Generation Poets, presented in partnership with the Winchester Poetry Festival, features performances from three poets awarded with the prestigious Next Generation Poet accolade on February 18.

On February 9 Loose Muse Winchester celebrates women in literature and on March 4 three female crime and thriller writers return with Killer Girls’ Night In.

Local explorer John Pilkington presents another travel talk on March 12 with Syria, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan – Tales from Extraordinary Countries.

Two free healthcare talks, Five and a Half Things You Must Know to Prevent Back Pain and The Walking Tall Workshop will be held on January 31 and March 14.

On stage Macbeth Gets Manly on February 21, the Mahogany Opera Group present Folie à Deux on March 28, and University of Winchester students perform The Wasters! on April 11.

Pocket Theatre’s take on Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers will be on April 18, followed by Shakespeare’s Richard II on April 24.

There is also music and comedy, including Channel Four favourite Seann Walsh, Tony Hawks, and Edinburgh Fringe favourite Lucy Porter.
