CITY planners have received outline plans for up to 350 homes in Winchester near a 200-home scheme where work has already started.

Linden Homes wants to build a maximum of 350 properties, including up to 140 affordable homes, on Vale Farm off Romsey Road.

The outline plans also include an elderly care village, mixed use local centre, retention and enhancement of existing bridleways with new pedestrian and cycle links, open spaces, play areas, drainage works, supported highways and drainage infrastructure.

Cllr Brian Laming, ward councillor for Oliver’s Battery and Badger Farm, said it is outside of the local plan.

“From what people have told me it’s only the developers that want it,” he said.

“We have also got to bear in mind that this is only half the land they have options on, there’s potential for it to be bigger than that.”

The site is adjacent to the 200-home Pitt Manor development, which was given permission after a public inquiry.

Linden Homes held public consultations last year for 500 homes at Pittvale, the land off Romsey Road between Kilham Lane and Enmill Lane, Pitt.

A spokeswoman said: the plans have been scaled down following residents’ feedback.

“Linden Homes has submitted a planning application to help address the current shortage of housing supply in Winchester.”

She added that the green space would be protected against future development through a legal agreement with the city council.

The closing date for comments is July 16 and the determination deadline is September 18.
