A HUGE solar farm is set to be built on land near Bishop's Waltham after plans were approved by city chiefs.
The 64-acre scheme is expected to create a handful of part-time jobs and provide enough power for more than 3,500 homes.
Winchester City Council received three objections to the proposals.
Community groups will soon be invited to apply for grants to fund local projects. Many residents called for the scheme to fund roadworks and improvements to Priory Meadow at an exhibition last year.
Local groups can also buy shares in the farm once it is producing electricity, expected from spring. Solafields is offering up to 10 per cent of the farm for community investment, with Hampshire Renewable Energy Cooperative suggesting investments of between £1,000 and £10,000.
