A MAN has died after a crash on a Hampshire motorway.

Police were called to “serious collision” on the M3 northbound between junctions eight and nine at Micheldever yesterday.

One lane was closed and is likely to remain so well into the evening as police conduct their investigation.

in a statement, police said: "At around 15:40pm a black Peugeot 208 and a red Ford Fiesta were involved in a collision. Sadly the driver of the Peugeot, a man from Basingstoke, died.

"The two people in the Ford Fiesta were treated by ambulance crews, but were not seriously injured.

"One of the two lanes between junction 8 and 9 remains closed at this time while police carry out a full investigation of the collision.

"This lane closure will remain in place for some time and although traffic is flowing we would urge drivers to consider other routes this evening.

"Anyone who saw what happened should contact Sergeant Graeme Hughes at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting Operation Otto, or via the website http://www.hampshire.police.uk/internet/do-it-online/online-forms/message-for-officer.html
