IT is known as the Christmas capital of England.

Each year thousands upon thousands of people from across the world flock to Winchester to enjoy its festive line-up.

The city will once more be transformed into a winter wonderland it has its Christmas lights turned on tomorrow.

Doing the honours this year will be host of The One Show Matt Baker, as the event will be broadcast to millions of homes across the UK.

The switch on will start with entertainment from 4pm and there will be a variety of performances including a scene from the cast of this year's pantomime 'Jack and the Beanstalk',Winchester Military Wives Choir, performances from local school choirs and various competitions hosted by radio presenters throughout the day.

The switch-on also co-insides with the Winchester stop off of the Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge and as a result Pudsey will be on hand to meet with guests and CiN will be conducting some fundraising activities.

There will be a small street market with a range of stalls and refreshments.

Christmas in Winchester has become a huge commercial success over the last five years as thousands of people flock to the city centre to enjoy the famous Christmas market and ice rink at the cathedral.

This year's line up in the city will also feature the iconic Coca Cola truck which will visit the city on December 17 as part of its 46-stop national tour.

While thousands of people are expected to enjoy a lantern parade on November 27.

Meanwhile families can enjoy an ice-rink outside Winchester Cathedral which will be there from November 19 to January 3.

The popular Christmas markets will be celebrating its 10th birthday and will be at Winchester Cathedral Inner Close from November 19 to December 22.
