IT WAS a night to remember for one Hampshire filmmaker.

Finn Bruce, 23, showcased his latest venture to a collective of 80 friends, family and local business at the Everyman Theatre in Winchester.

The Alresford producer filmed Belly of the Bulldog at his parents' farm at Matterley Estate, home of the Boomtown Festival.

The psychological thriller was filmed entirely in Winchester and is mainly based inside a tank whilst hordes of enemies battle to get inside.

The film features Rupert Evans who is currently starring in the popular Amazon Prime drama Man in the High Castle, Michael Smiley (Kill List) and April Pearson (Skins).

After the screening, Finn said: "It went really well. I was nervous when presenting it to all the people I knew, but the response was terrific and I am very pleased about that.

"Everyone said they enjoyed it and a lot of people were there who would not have normally watched that genre of film. We have definitely created some horror lovers and I feel privileged to have done that."

Mother Minna Bruce was proud to see her son's work on the silver screen.

"It feels so real now," she said. "It is strange to see it being filmed to then see it on the big screen. I am just so proud of him.

"They filmed it all on our estate and used one of the barns as a production area. It was all very exciting."

The film was premiered in Leicester Square at Film4's FrightFest but Finn wanted to show it in his hometown as well.

"We wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped out during the filming," he added. "We were very fortunate to have the support of so many local people and businesses. That's why we also showed it in Winchester."

A spokesperson for Everyman Cinema said: "Some people contact us to have special showings of their own films here. We allow them to have intimate showings with friends and loved ones.

"We clearly have quite a lot of talented and creative people in Winchester as we are asked for the screenings all the time."

The film, written by Nick Gillespie, is based on a short-film Nick and Finn produced in 2013 called Samual and Emily Versus the World.

Finn will now look to sell on the rights to the film and hopes to find a buyer either at the Cannes or Berlin film festivals.
