A DRIVER has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a car accident.
The A33 in Micheldever has been closed in both directions after reports that a car crashed into a ditch, with the driver trapped inside.
The air ambulance was also called out to the scene.
Hampshire Constabulary were called to the scene at 1.19pm today and the driver was cut out of the vehicle.
The driver has now been taken to the North Hants Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.
The vehicle, a Mercedes, is now being recovered from the scene.
Winchester Fire Station tweeted to describe the motorist as "one lucky driver".
A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said that the driver was an elderly male who had sustained a serious but not life threatening head injury.
He said that they were called to the scene at 1.14pm this afternoon and sent the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance as well as a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance.
The spokesman said: “We received a report of a single car RTC with the car having rolled over onto its roof. The caller thought that there could have been two people inside the car.
“When our crews arrived they found an elderly man who had sustained serious but not life threatening injuries. He was taken to North Hants hospital in Basingstoke by land ambulance with some of the air ambulance crew travelling with him.”
