A TEENAGER riding a skateboard suffered severe facial injuries when he was viciously attacked at a Southampton petrol station.

The 19-year-old victim was set upon at the Shell filling station on Burgess Road in the city’s Bassett area.

Now police are calling for anyone who witnessed the attack to contact them.

The youngster became involved in a dispute with a man and woman in a red Toyota Avensis, police say.

Two men approached him from behind and at least one struck the teenager in the face with an object, before fleeing along Burgess Road on foot towards Swaythling.

The couple in the Toyota also left the scene.

The victim needed hospital treatment for serious facial injuries.

He has since been discharged from hospital after undergoing surgery.

The two men are described as white and aged around 20-years-old.

Detective Constable Rob Munro said: “This incident happened in the middle of the day when there would have been a lot of people nearby.

“We would like anyone who saw what happened, or has any information about the incident, to come forward and talk to police.

“I would also like to reassure members of the public that this level of violence is a rare occurrence, particularly in such a public location as this.”

A 45-year-old man, a 20-year-old man, and a 51-year-old woman, all from Southampton, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

All three were bailed until January 18.
