A DEVELOPER has said that they are pressing ahead with the construction of 200 homes in Hampshire - despite rumours that the scheme had been delayed.

It comes after the Daily Echo was alerted that the scheme for 200 homes on the site of the former Police Headquarters in Winchester may have been “delayed”.

As reported, the Berkeley Homes scheme has seen the the force’s former West Hill base, which stood on Romsey Road for more than 50 years, demolished.

Previously it was reported they want to replace it with 190 flats and 18 townhouses – however it is understood they are still finalising what the plans will be.

The scheme, which also include an underground car park and path for bikes and pedestrians, was approved by planners in February last year.

As reported demolition work on the seven-storey building began in December.

A source told the Daily Echo that the scheme may have been delayed due to Brexit, however Berkeley Homes has denied this.

A saleswoman at Berkeley Homes said: “The plans are still being amended, we are not due to launch the site until summer of next year.

“We are amending what it is going to be and what we are going to build.”

She said that the site has had lots of interest from home buyers and added: “All we have been told is we are still looking at the plans and the best way to go about the site.

“We have had lots of interest, we have a massive file of people that have called us.”

Berkeley Homes told the Echo that there is no delay.

A spokesman said:"The development has not been stalled, the demolition of the buildings are nearing completion and we still have pre-commencement conditions to discharge before we can start the actual construction."
