HAPPY Mondays and Black Grape frontman Shaun Ryder will be opening up about his colourful life and career in a live interview on stage at Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday. He will also answer questions from the audience.

Shaun’s roots are in Salford, Greater Manchester, where in 1980 he formed Happy Mondays. Their releases included the two classic albums Bummed and Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches. Signed to Factory records, the band played a prominent role in the so-called Madchester scene.

He subsequently started Black Grape, releasing the albums It’s Great When You’re Straight... Yeah. Following his achievements with both bands, he received the Godlike Genius Award from NME in 2000. Shaun continues to tour with both Happy Mondays and Black Grape.

In recent years, he has become a familiar face on TV. He was runner-up in I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2010. In 2013 he presented his own TV programme Shaun Ryder on UFOs on The History Channel.

The 2002 film 24 Hour Party People features the semi-fictional version of Shaun Ryder and Happy Mondays’ time with Factory Records. In 2011, Shaun released his autobiography Twisting My Melon.

An Evening With Shaun Ryder is hosted by Bob Diggles of BBC Radio Solent. Tickets from theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or 01962 840 440.
