A WINCHESTER hospital has been recognised for its high-quality cancer care.

BMI Sarum Road Hospital has secured the Macmillan Environmental Mark (MQEM), which recognises the quality of the environment in which people can access treatment, information and support for cancer.

To mark the recognition, BMI Sarum Road Hospital will soon be presented with a plaque by Macmillan Cancer Support following the assessment by a quality & risk specialist and a service user.

BMI Sarum Road Hospital’s executive director, Martin Page said: “We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award from Macmillan Cancer Support. The recognition highlights the effort from the entire team from within the hospital in creating an environment to deliver the highest standards of care for people affected by cancer in Winchester.”

The MQEM helps ensure that people affected by cancer are treated and supported in physical environments of uniformly high quality.

The assessment follows a framework used for assessing whether cancer care environments meet the standards required by people living with cancer.

In meeting the MQEM standards the hospital has demonstrated that its environment is welcoming and accessible to all, respectful of people's privacy and dignity, supportive to a patients' comfort, provides choice and control for patients using the service and listens to the patient.

The MQEM standards were developed in collaboration with over 400 people living with cancer and stakeholders, including the Department of Health.
