A WINCHESTER road will be closed for more than a week as work on a major development in the city continues.

Works to install a new water main into the King’s Barton development have started and they will last around six weeks.

To allow the work to take place, Park Road will be closed until June 24.

The connection to the water main at the southern end of the site will provide the supply for the rest of the 2,000-home development currently under construction by CALA Homes.

Temporary traffic signals will be installed on Andover Road during off-peak times for the duration of the works.

Technical director at CALA Homes’ Rob Westwood said: “The installation of the new water main is vital to the creation of the exciting new community at King’s Barton. We appreciate the temporary road closure may cause some inconvenience and will endeavour to do everything possible to minimise disruption to local residents whilst work is carried out.”

Winchester City Councillor Caroline Brook said: “We have worked hard with our colleagues at Hampshire County Council, CALA and Clancy Docwra, to carry out this essential work with the least disruption to residents and road users in the area. Once complete the connection to the mains will be a landmark stage in the King’s Barton development.”
