COLDEN Common Pre-school has raised more than £1,000 for charity through an annual egg hunt held at the weekend.

The cold weather and snow failed to deter families who turned out in force. They battled the elements to follow the trail of clues around the village.

As well as the egg hunt, children had the opportunity to make Easter bunnies and colour Easter-themed pictures in a competition judged by parish councillors Pam Glasspool and Richard Izard.

Rosa, aged four, who won the colouring competition, said: “It was great! I won some pens and a bag. I loved doing the colouring, and getting a chocolate Easter egg today too!”

Laura Harman, school chairman, said: “We were delighted to see so many families take part despite the weather. To have snow on the day was completely unexpected, but the support and good spirit from local residents has been heart warming, and we are thrilled to raise so much, which will go towards enriching the pre-school experience for many local children.”

The event also featured a raffle which included some fantastic prizes such as a brand new scooter, chocolate hamper, wine and tickets to local attractions.

The egg hunt was run by volunteers on Saturday, with Charters Estate Agents and Taylor Wimpey sponsoring.
