WINCHESTER Rotary president-elect Les Haswell and a group of fellow Winchester Rotarians visited the site of the planned Winchester Hospice.
They were joined by deputy mayor Frank Pearson and his wife Anne. The group had the opportunity to view at first hand the refurbishment of the building (on the Royal Hampshire County Hospital site in Romsey Road), which will transform it into a new hospice for Winchester.
While work on the roof is complete, much remains to be done before the hospice opens next year.
The hospice project has been chosen as the club’s main charity for Les's year as President, which starts on 1 July.
On hand to show everyone round the building were Judith Charmer, fundraising manager for the project and Maddy Thomson, clinical matron for palliative care and nurse lead for end of life care at RHCH.
Maddy will be the matron of the hospice when it opens next year.
A number of fundraising events for the hospice appeal are already planned by Winchester Rotary and these will culminate in a Gala Ball at the Guildhall on December 14.
