Planners recommend travellers' site gets green light

Planners are recommending councillors approve a controversial scheme to build a travellers’ site on farmland near Winchester.

George and Veronica Cooper want to convert agricultural land at Highbridge near Colden Common. They have asked to put one mobile home and one touring caravan on the site.

The scheme, which has attracted 18 objections, will go before members of Winchester City Council’s planning sub-committee today.

Otterbourne Parish Council, in its submission, said if this scheme was approved it would create a precedent for a larger travellers’ site. Nearby residents cited concerns over the visibility of the caravan from Highbridge Road and neighbouring properties.
