MYSTERY surrounds the death of a popular Hampshire woman found dead at home.

Patricia Sommerville died suddenly aged 62 at her home in Stockbridge Road, Winchester, but the reason is unexplained.

Mrs Sommerville had no medical conditions and a post-mortem examination could not find any obvious cause of death.

She was found on November 13 by her husband Dr David Sommerville, a retired GP in Winchester.

He said his wife was a popular member of the community.

Pathologist Dr Balvinder Shoker, who carried out the post-mortem examination, said: “There is no evidence of any unnatural causes so my findings suggest it is most likely natural causes but exactly what it was that caused her death I cannot say.”

The inquest heard between one and five per cent of deaths cannot be explained by post-mortem examinations.

Assistant Deputy Coroner for Central Hampshire Sarah Whitby recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
