New line on assault probe New line on assault probe

WINCHESTER police have changed an investigation into a sex assault in the Stanmore area into an assault probe.

Detectives are now confident that no sexual attack took place in Stanmore Lane on February 29 when a 21-year-old student walked home.

DC Ashley O’Dea said: “We do, however, think it is possible the woman was assaulted and we continue to appeal for witnesses.”

Police are keen to hear from anyone in the areas of Sparkford Road, Airlie Road, Cromwell Road and Stanmore Lane.

The attacker is described as an Asian man in his 30s.

Anyone with information should call North Walls Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111.
