FIREFIGHTERS today tackled a fire in a cell at Winchester Prison today.

Three fire crews from Winchester raced to the jail on Romsey Road after a call at 11.05am.

Two firefighters in breathing apparatus used one hose to douse the flames within minutes.

The cause was believed to be suspicious.

The ambulance service was also alerted but a spokeswoman said there was currently “no medical reason to attend.”

I bet that all personal belongings were spread around to other cells before the fire was lit.next will be the claim of lost items.

There are a hundred and one reasons for a prisoner to start a fire in a cell. "Insurance job" is way down the list.
